An original WW2 'Insert Electrically Heated Jacket (For Type F-2 Electrically Heated Flying Suit)' made by General Electric and in a size 38.
During the Second World War United States Air Force crews had to face extremely cold weather condition, particularly those in the European Theatre of Operations flying in Bombers of the 8th and 9th Air Forces. This lead to the development of heating flying suits with the Type F-2 coming into service in August 1943.
The F-2 set was made up of four pieces with this being one of them. Made from OD wool blanket material, this jacket liner provided more flexible wiring then in previous suits.
This particular examples was still retains its original manufactures label which states the maker as 'General Electric' and the size as 38. As well as this it states 'Made in USA' and 'Property Air Forces US Army'. The original brass talon zipper is also present and works well.
The overall condition of the jacket is good with only limited signs of service wear and age. Please study the pictures as these form part of the description.
All in all a nice piece of wartime US flying clothing which would be ideal for both the collector and re-enactor alike.
