An original American Officers Mustard OD shirt fitted with an original CBI patch to the left sleeve.
This shirt is typical of those worn by American Army and USAAF officers during the Second World War. It features a full button front, two patch pockets, double button cuff and epaulettes. The collar has a lovely spearpoint shape typical of the period and features a chin strap fastening. The left breast pocket has an inner pen pocket which is common to find with these shirts and epaulettes are located to the shoulders.
The shirt is made from a mustard colour wool rayon mix which is the same shade as those used by Enlisted Men. This example differs from the EM shirts as it features epaulettes and is of higher quality.
Inside the collar of the shirt the original maker's label is still present. It reads 'Officers Army Regulation, Form Fit, 100% Pure Virgin Wool, Styled By Yale'. It is again typical of those found in shirts from the Second World War. The original owner also added a name tag above the label which reads 'Franz J. Maier'.
Apart from the fact that overall this is a very nice example of a wartime officers shirt, what really sets it off is the C.B.I patch on the left sleeve. It is a stunning example of the patch and has been added to the shirt beautifully.
The shirt is a larger size and when laid flat measures -
Chest - 22"
Inside arm - 22"
Outside arm - 25 1/2"
Shoulders - 19"
Collar - 16 1/2"
The condition of the shirt is good as can be seen in the pictures. There is a hole to one of the sleeves (picture 5) and a few other smaller holes, notably to the rear of the shirt which are shown in the pictures. Whilst not in perfect condition the shirt displays very well and is still wearable. Please study the pictures before purchasing.
All in all a very nice original WW2 US shirt in a larger wearable size and complete with a stunning original patch. This would make an excellent addition to any collection, without a doubt.
