An original United States Marine Corps P44 Herringbone Twill tunic dated 1945 and in good condition.
This original WW2 period USMC shirt is made from the green HBT fabric used by the US forces during the WW2 and into the 1950s. It features USMC marked metal doughnut buttons which are all intact aside from one to the right sleeve. The large flapped chest pocket on the outside of the jacket features the USMC insignia as well as a pen pocket section. The gas flap is also still present which is a nice attribute, as these were often removed.
Inside the jacket the original manufacturer's markings are still present, which again are often missing on examples offered onto the market today. At the neck there is the size of 36 and to the chest area is a longer stamp which bears the date of 22nd of January 1945.
The shirt is designed to fit a 36" chest but is cut very wide across the chest so will easily fit up to a 40" chest depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -
Chest - 23"
Shoulders - 17 1/2"
Inside arm - 19 1/2"
Outside arm - 22 1/2"
Length - 27 1/2"
The condition is very good indeed with some signs of wear and age. There is some staining and some marks as illustrated in the pictures. Please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-owned jacket which has small issues commensurate with age.
A design classic with loads of great details and in a good size!
