An authentic 1944 made USAAF B15 Flying Jacket by Reed Products Inc.
These jackets came into issue with the USAAF during 1944 and replaced the B10 flying jacket. This is a authentic USAAF issue jacket from WW2 and not one of the post-war civilian versions which are commonly mis-sold today as wartime.
This jacket has the correct off centre zip which was a feature of wartime jackets as well as the correct lining to the pockets.
The jacket features a green cotton shell which is in good condition for its age, although it does have some signs of wear, particularly around the bottom of the sleeves as well as some to the front of the jacket. This jacket clearly saw some action! There is also an original AAF patch sewn on to the left sleeve which is a common addition to find.
The Grey Alpaca lining is in good condition generally but does have some areas where it has completely worn away, particularly around the neck area.
The collar has some signs of damage as can be seen in the photograph but it still displays well. The knitted cuffs and waistband are intact but well worn. All of these things can be replaced should the new owner so wish, but personally I think the jacket is best kept in its original state.
The zip is a replacement YKK, but a very sympathetic one and only noticeable on close inspection. It is brass and the cotton tape is the correct colour, only the puller is noticeable wrong. Again, this could be changed.
The label is still intact although slightly worn but does state the size as 38 Regular. The jacket will fit up to a 40" chest quite comfortably.
Both the outer slash pockets and the internal pockets have the correct pop studs and these all work well.
This jacket is by no means and mint condition example and has been priced accordingly. It is however a very honest original 1944 USSAF issue example with genuine wear which would be a real asset to any USAAF collection.
