An extremely scarce example of an RAF Ordinary Airman’s tie.
This pattern of tie was worn by all ranks up to and including flight sergeants. They were also worn by members of the Women's Auxiliary Air Force of the corresponding ranks.
The construction of the tie is typical of the period being made from a single piece of fabric. It is very short in length which again is standard for 1940s ties and has a partial hessian liner. The original label is no longer present but the airman has added his serial number on a piece of white cotton which may offer the chance of further research.
The tie is in good condition for its age with some signs of wear, use and age. Overall it displays well and could still be worn.
A very rare original OA item to find today which is ideal for an RAF or WAAF impression or mannequin!
