Scarce Original 1940 Dated RAF Ordinary Airman's Greatcoat - Large

Code: 54572

SOLD

A Rare original 1940 dated RAF Ordinary Airman's Greatcoat in a hard to find large size.

Officially designated 'Greatcoats Blue Grey, O.A.', this pattern of greatcoat came into use with the RAF during the 1930s and saw use throughout the Second World War before being replaced by the 'New Pattern' greatcoat in the immediate post-war years.

This greatcoat features the correct number of brass King's crown buttons and a white blanket lining to the interior. The original label is still present and states the coat as being a size No. 12 Which will fit up to 6" 2" tall, a 39 -41" chest. There is no maker's name which is uncommon on early produced items such as this. There is however a contract number which dates the coat to 1940 making this a Battle of Britain period item.

The overall condition of the Greatcoat is good although it has some signs of wear and age. The blue serge wool is still a lovely deep coloured and has not faded out with the sun and overall the coat looks to be very wearable. Please bear in mind that this is a vintage coat of almost 80 year old and may have small issues commensurate with age.

All in all, a good example of a wartime RAF OA greatcoat which is a very hard to find large size and has a desirable early date.
