Rare Original 1942 Dated RAF Battledress Jacket - Italian Campaign

Code: 54355

SOLD

A rare original Royal Air Force battledress blouse which belonged to Leading Aircraftman 769 Wadham who served in Italy during the Second World War.

This jacket is a theatre made example which is typical of those worn by members of the RAF in Sicily and Italy during 1943-45. Many men were issued with theatre made uniforms such as this as the supply lines were shorter. This example came with the Ordinary Airman's tunic and cap which is also listed which bears the Italy Star and theatre made LAC rank badges.

The jacket is fitted with mid-war period semi-embroidered eagle badges to the top of each shoulder and LAC rank bdag eof the same pattern are found below this. The jacket features stamped metal buttons and stamped waist buckle which are typical of Indian made items from this period. The jacket is lined with a khaki coloured Aertex material, which is again typical.

Inside the jacket the original label is still present and bears the 1942 date along with the size of 7. The original owner has marked his surname and last three digits of his serial number to the label in ink. He has marked his name a second time to the waistband lining.

The jacket is in good condition with some signs of service wear and use. It displays very well with no serious flaws or damage but please do take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A very original jacket from the Italian Campaign which would make an excellent addition to any WW2 collection.
