An original World War Two RAF Officers side cap on good condition and an extra large size!
The hat doesn’t have a size inside but is an inch longer than another I have currently which is marked as a 7 1/2 making this a size 7 5/8 or possibly bigger. It really is big and is easily the largest I have ever come across.
The cap features a brass kings crown cap badge and two brass raf buttons to the front. The cap badge has a couple stitches over one wing to hold it in place and this appears to be period.
From the outside the cap looks like a standard RAF officers cap but the interior is interesting. The construction leads me to believe that this hat is a theatre made example. There is what looks like the remnants of a label to one side of the lining but it is to worn to read.
The overall condition of the cap is good as can be seen in the photographs. The interior is clean and doesn't show signs of excessive wear and aside from a couple of very small moth holes, the exterior is also very clean.
Overall, a very nice original cap which is easily the largest I have ever come across! This would be ideal for a Re-enactor who struggles to find good original headwear in their size.
