A rare original RAF Leather Jerkin dating from the Second World War and in a large size.
This pattern of leather jerkin came into issue with the British Army during the Great War and stayed in service throughout the Second World War and well into the post-war years. This particular example is the RAF pattern which features an RAF blue grey blanket serge lining. The dark colour of the lining along with the darkness of the hide may suggest that this a Candian made example.
There is no label inside the jacket but the design, materials and construction are consistent with WW2 examples.
The tunic is a large size, quite possibly a size 4. It will fit up to a 46" chest and possibly larger and when laid flat it measures -
Chest - 26 1/2"
Shoulders - 19 1/2"
Length - 30"
The condition of the jerkin is good for its age but it does have plenty of signs of wear and use. There are lots of signs of wear to the leather and some staining etc to the blanket lining. The lining has wear and has taken on a more grey colour through use and there is an L-shape tear to the leather at the rear of the garment as illustrated in the last picture. Please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which has flaws consistent with age.
RAF issue leather jerkins are very rare to find today, especially in a large size. This would make an excellent addition to any RAF collection without a doubt!
