Original WW2 RAF Ordinary Airman's Greatcoat - Size 4

Original WW2 RAF Ordinary Airman's Greatcoat - Size 4

Code: 54475

SOLD

A good original example of an RAF Ordinary Airman's Greatcoat in a size No. 4 which dates from the Second World War.

Officially designated 'Greatcoats Blue Grey, O.A.', this pattern of greatcoat came into use with the RAF during the 1930s and saw use throughout the Second World War before being replaced by the 'New Pattern' greatcoat in the immediate post-war years.

This greatcoat features the correct number of brass King's crown buttons and a white blanket lining to the interior. The original label is still present and states the coat as being a size No. 4 Which will fit up to 5' 6" tall, a 36 - 38" chest. The maker's name of 'Prices Tailors Ltd The Fifty Shilling Tailors' is present as is the War Department broad arrow marking. There is no date but this is the label used during the war and this pattern was not made after 1946.

The coat is fitted with mid-war period semi embroidered eagle badges to the top of each sleeve and early war embroidered leading aircraftman badges are located below this.

The overall condition of the Greatcoat is good although it has some signs of wear and age. The blue serge wool is still a lovely deep coloured and has not faded out with the sun and overall the coat looks to be very wearable. There is a small hole to the chest which is illustrated in picture 4 although this is only noticable under close scrutiny. Please bear in mind that this is a vintage coat of almost 80 year old and may have small issues commensurate with age.

All in all, a good example of a wartime RAF OA greatcoat which is becoming increasingly hard to find. This would compliment any RAF collection or complete a re-enactment uniform nicely.
