SOLD

An original WW2 RAF Ordinary Airman’s forage cap complete in a hard to find large size.

These caps came into issue with the RAF shortly before the Second World War and were worn by all airman of the rank of Flight Sergeant and below. It is now an iconic piece of wartime RAF clothing synonymous with both Sergeant Aircrew and ground crew alike.

This particular example is typical of wartime manufacture. It features a brass Kings crown cap badge and two brass Kings crown RAF buttons to the front. The interior is lined with a black coloured cotton and a separate cotton twill sweatband.

The condition of the cap is good but there is some staining to the interior of the cap. This may come out with some careful cleaning. The exterior is nice with som esigns of wear and age.

The hat is a rare large size which is easily a size 7 1/2 and probably larger. When laid flat it measures 11 1/8" along the opening.

All in all a nice original wartime period example which is a very hard to find large size.
