Original WW2 RAF Officer's Service Dress Tunic

Original WW2 RAF Officer's Service Dress Tunic

Code: 54403

SOLD

An original WW2 period Royal Air Force Officers Service Dress Tunic in good condition.

This pattern of tunic was introduced during the 1930s and worn throughout the Second World War. It was replaced with a new pattern in 1947 which only featured a three button front rather than four, meaning there is quite likely a wartime made tunic. It is the standard cut used throughout the Second World War for RAF Officers with pleated breast pockets with scalloped pockets and bellows pockets to the skirt. It features a full set of brass Kings crown RAF buttons and retains its original waist belt and brass buckle which is a high quality example, better than those usually seen during the 1940s.

Rank braid is fitted to the cuffs which denotes the rank of Flight Lieutenant and there is evidence of where a wing has been fitted above the left breast pocket and badges have been fitted previously to the collar. Medal ribbons are fitted above the left breast pocket which include the Africa Star and the Burma Star.

There are no labels or markings anywhere inside the jacket but it is a guaranteed original period item which dates to no later than 1947.

The tunic is a smaller size which will suit around a 36" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat the tunic measures -

Chest - 19 1/2"
Waist - 16"
Inside arm - 16 1/2"
Outside arm - 23 3/4"
Shoulders - 17"
Length - 30"

The tunic is in good condition with no serious flaws or damage. It only shows limited signs of wear and use and overall displays very well. Please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A nice original Second World War period tunic in good condition.
