Original WW2 RAF Officer's Peaked Cap by 'Austin Reed'

Original WW2 RAF Officer's Peaked Cap by 'Austin Reed'

Code: 54420

SOLD

A nice original Royal Air Force Officers Peaked Cap made by 'Austin Reed' in the 1940s.

This pattern of cap was worn by RAF officers in the pre-war period and well into the postwar years. This example is a typical mid war shape with a D-shaped peak and small crown. The label is also the style used by Austin Reed during the war. The cap is fitted with a black coloured mohair band and an original King's crown RAF cap badge is fitted to this and both appear to be original to the cap. The chin strap is missing as are the chin strap buttons but these could be sourced to complete the hat.

To the interior of the cap the original label is still present and reads 'Austin Reed Regents Street London'. The leather sweatband is marked 'Real Roam Leather' as is often found on WW2 peaked caps.

The hat is a smaller size and measures as a 6 5/8.

The overall condition of the cap is very good with signs of wear and age. There are no serious flaws and overall it displays well. There is an area of where the stitching has come away around the sweatband but this could be reattached if so desired without too much of a problem. Please study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-owned item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A nice original example of an RAF officers hat from a well known British maker.
