An original example of a Royal Air Force officer's field service cap which belonged to a DFC winner who served during the Second World War.
This cap belonged to the same flight engineer as a set of Service Dress listed separately. He trained in Canada in 1942 before going on to win the Distinguished Flying Cross once flying operationally. He was also awarded the Aircrew Europe star which denotes that he served as operational aircrew in that theatre of war. The original owner's service dress suit can be seen here - https://www.blightymilitaria.com/en-GB/ww2-raf-uniforms/original-canadian-made-raf-officer-s-service-dress-suit---dfc-winner/prod_54842
This cap is a standard example which was quite possibly purchased in Canada at the same time as the service dress uniform. There are two brass RAF buttons to the front of the cap whilst the interior is lined in a gold coloured rayon material and features a velvet sweatband in a similar colour. A brass King's crown RAF officer's cap badge is fitted to the right side of the cap.
The hat is a large size which is at least a 7 1/2 and it measures at 11" along the opening.
The cap is in good condition with no serious flaws or damage. There are signs of wear and use which are to be expected. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-owned item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
A nice original example with aircrew provenance.
