A rare and a true collectors item this - an orignal 1940s Royal Air Force Football Association Shirt dating from the 1940s.
This shirt was made by ‘Bukta’ who were without a doubt one of the most prolific manufactures of sporting clothing during the 1930s and 1940s.
The shirt is made from s very lightweight black fabric which I believe to be rayon and is certainly well suited to sports. It features a ‘DOT’ zipper in the neck who were always one of the prefer brands of zips with the RAF. The chest features two buttoning pockets and each features a different badge, both of which are clearly original to the shirt. The right hand side is a shield in RAF blue which features a Kings Crown, an albatross and he letters RAF an FA. The kings crown as well as the Bukta label date this without a doubt to the 1940s.
The shirt also has some other interesting details including popstuds above the cuff and numerous button holes around the collar.
The shirt is in good condition as can be seen in the photographs but it is made from a fine material and is 70 + years old so please remember this. It measures 20 1/2” pit to pit when paid flat so should be a good fit for someone with a 38” chest.
Overall an absolutely stunning item which really stands out as something different and interesting. It would without a doubt compliment any RAF collection!
