An original British Army Officers collarless shirt dating from the Second World War made by 'Clydella'.
This particular shirt is typical of those worn in the early part of WW2 and is essentially unchanged from those of the Great War. Made from a soft, khaki coloured wool flannel; the shirt features a half placket, or 'tunic' front. This style of shirt was popular in the first half of the 20th Century in the UK losing favour to more fitted full button front shirts in the 1950s.
Inside the shirt the original label is still present which bears the makers label with the 'Clydella' brand name above the night and day wear logo - This is often found on officers shirts. Below this is the suppliers label which bears the name 'Copland Lye Ltd' of Glasgow. The original owner has added a name tag over the first label which reads 'J. E. Dallachy'.
The shirt is a smaller size which will fit around a 34" chest depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -
Chest - 21"
Inside arm - 20"
Outside arm - 23 1/2"
Shoulders - 15 1/2"
Collar - 13 1/2"
Length at front - 30 1/2"
Length at back - 35 1/2"
The shirt is in good condition for its age and is still very wearable. There are no signs of excessive wear or serious damage and overall the shirt displays very well. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item.
All in all a nice original British officers shirt with a great label. Ideal for the collector and re-enactor alike!
