Original RAF Ordinary Airman's Tunic - Size 9

Original RAF Ordinary Airman's Tunic - Size 9

Code: 54493

SOLD

An original World War Two period Royal Air Force Ordinary Airman's Tunic in good condition and in a size 9.

This pattern of tunic was introduced before WW2 and was worn throughout the conflict by all RAF airmen up to the rank of Flight Sergeant as both a working dress and a walking out uniform. This example is undated and cannot be dated exactly as this pattern was produced with no changes from the early 1940s through to the middle of the 1950s. It does not have the light coloured stitching often found on 1950s examples however, so could be a wartime manufactured jacket.

The jacket features brass King's crown RAF buttons and brass belt hangers are fitted to the waist. There is no label to the interior although there is a size stamp which reads '9'. There is also a faint War Department acceptance stamp above this.

The tunic is a smaller size which will suit around a 37" - 38" chest depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 20 1/4"
Waist - 18"
Inside arm - 19"
Outside arm - 25 1/2"
Length - 29 1/2"
Shoulders - 16 1/2"

The tunic is in good condition for its age and overall displays well. It shows no real signs of wear or use and is still a nice deep colour which it would have been when new. There are no signs of laundering and the indigo blue coloured lining is still a deep colour. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing as this is a vintage item with small issues commensurate with age.

This could suit a reenactor or collector well and will make a good stand-in for a war dated example.
