An original 1953 dated RAF officers shirt in usable condition and with the correct half button front.
This shirt is the correct half placket type with no chest pockets or epaulettes as worn throughout the Second World War. It is dated 1953 but the pattern remained unchanged at this point. It features a barrel cuff which can be fastened with a button or have cufflinks fitted. The shirt would have originally been collarless but has had a matching collar added which was a common modification during the war and in the post-war period.
Inside the collar the original markings are still present including the 1953 date and the size of 15 1/2".
Due to the shirt being a half placket design it is cut very wide across the chest and shoulders to allow it to be pulled on over the wearer's head. When laid flat the shirt measures -
Chest - 25"
Inside arm - 22 1/2"
Outside arm - 25"
Shoulders - 18 1/2"
Length at front - 34"
Length at back - 37 1/2"
The shirt is in worn condition and has a number of areas of small holes as detailed in the pictures. It is far from perfect which has been reflected in the price. Please study the pictures before purchasing.
Overall a reasonable original shirt which would be ideal for a reenactor who wants to wear the correct original pattern or a collector to add to an RAF officer collection.
