An original size Royal Air Force War Service Dress battledress dated 1946 and in a large size 14.
This pattern of jacket came into service in late 1940 listed as 'Suits, Aircrew' before being re-designated 'War Service Dress' in 1943, remaining virtually unchanged. The blouse features the wire style waist buckle often found on these blouses, RAF style scalloped pocket flaps, black plastic buttons throughout and a pair of hook and eyes to close the neck. Whilst the jacket is dated 1946 it is identical to those made and issued during the WW2.
Inside the jacket the original label is still present and is stil clearly legible. The size is stated as 14 which is designed to fit up to a 40" chest and a 36" waist. The War Department broad arrow is also present as is the 1946 date and the maker's name of 'Akett Ltd'.
When laid flat the jacket measures -
Chest - 23 1/2"
Waist - 18 1/2"
Inside arm - 19 1/2"
Outside arm - 26 1/2"
Shoulders - 18"
Length - 22"
The condition of the blouse is good with signs of previous wear and use. It was clearly issued and has original period repairs to both of the elbows and cuffs. There is also a small hole to the bottom of of the left breast pocket. It is a vintage pre-owned item so please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that it is a vintage item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
Overall this is a nice original RAF WSD blouse in good condition with a nice clear label.
