Original 1945 Dated WAAF Handbag by ‘Bukta’

Original 1945 Dated WAAF Handbag by ‘Bukta’

Code: 51515

SOLD

An original WAAF handbag made by 'Bukta' in 1945.

This rare pattern of bag is the pattern issued to women of the Women's Auxiliary Air Force during the latter part of the Second World War with surviving examples dating from 1944 and 1945.

The bag is made from a dark, navy blue coloured wool which is softer than serge. It features a brass zipper made by 'Swift' which is typical of the period. The reverse of the zip is marked F F. Ltd and it functions well. Inside the bag is a cotton divider which divides the bottom half of the bag into two sections.

The original label is still present to the interior and is made fo paper and glued directly onto the fabric of the bag. It states 'Bukta' as the manufacturer, a prolific maker of sportswear during the period, and features the War Department broad arrow marking and the 1945 date. The label has been overstamped with the War Department acceptance stamp in purple.

The bag is in excellent condition and shows no real signs of wear or use. It displays very well and would be hard to better.

A rare original war dated ladies item which would make a fine addition to any collection.
