An original 1945 dated example of a Royal Air Force Warrant Officer's / Officer's Field Service side cap in distressed condition.
This pattern of cap was worn by both Warrant Officer's and Officers or the Royal Air Force throughout the Second World War. The cap is fitted with two brass RAF buttons to the front of the cap and there is evidence of where a cap badge was fitted previously. The interior is lined in a gold coloured rayon material and features a suede sweatband in a similar colour. The original maker's stamp is present inside the cap bears the 1945 date and the size of 7 1/4. As well as this there is a War Department acceptance stamp which is surmounted by the letter 'Z' which denotes 1945 as the year of issue.
The condition of the cap is not the best. There are areas where the blue barathea wool is missing along with some holes and some staining to the lining. Please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this cap has flaws which are reflected in the price.
An original wartime cap with a clear date.
