Original 1945 Dated RAF Khaki Drill Bush Jacket - Size 6

Original 1945 Dated RAF Khaki Drill Bush Jacket - Size 6

Code: 52587

SOLD

An original 1945 dated RAF 'Shirts Bush Cellular, R.A.F., N.P.' as worn during the Second World War and in a size No. 6.

Aertex Bush jackets such as this offered a much liked alternative for RAF airmen. This was due to their lightweight, breathable nature which made them the ideal tunic in warm climates and were much more comfortable than the cotton drill Ordinary Airman's tunics.

The jacket features a full button front, large collar and long sleeves. It is fitted with brass Kings crown black plastic RAF buttons to the front and pockets whilst green-brown coloured buttons fasten the cuffs. The chest features pleated chest pocket with RAF style scalloped pocket flaps and large flapped pockets are located to the skirt. The interior of the tunic features a small patch pocket which fastens with a button.

The tunic is fitted with a set of insignia which is original to the jacket. Khaki Drill eagle badges are fitted to the top of each sleeve and a white back wireless trade badge is fitted to the right hand sleeve.

Inside the tunic the original label is still present and is bright and legible. It states the maker's name as 'John Gordon & Co.' and the size as No. 6. The 1945 date is present as is the War Department broad arrow marking.

When laid flat the tunic measures -

Chest - 21 1/2"
Inside arm - 17"
Outside arm - 23 1/4"
Length - 28"
Shoulders - 18 1/2"

The tunic is in well worn condition as can be seen in the pictures. It has various stainings and lots of wear - especially to the collar. These flaws have been reflected in the price but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing.

Whilst not the finest example ever, this is an authentic tunic with genuine wear and a nice clear date.
