A nice pair of original World War Two period RAF War Service Dress Trousers dated 1944 in a size 7.
These trousers came with the Pathfinder battledress jacket (item number 54300) and most likely belonged to the same airman.
This pattern of trousers replaced the earlier 'Suits, Aircrew' (introduced in 1940) and was the standard working dress for all members of the RAF from 1942 until 1947 when the 'New Pattern' uniforms was introduced.
The trousers are made from RAF blue coloured wool serge and feature one rear buttoning pocket, a slash pocket to each hip and a first field dress pocket to the front left of the trousers. They also feature a button fly and have buttons around the inside of the waistband to which braces can be attached, all of which are the standard black plastic type used on RAF clothing during this period .
Inside the trousers the original label is still present and states the size as 7 which will fit someone of around 5'8" tall, up to a 31" waist. The maker's name of 'S. Schneiders & Son Ltd' is also present as is the War Department broad arrow marking and the 1944 date.
When laid flat the trousers measure -
Waist - 15 1/4"
Inside leg - 30"
The overall condition of the trousers is very good as can be seen in the pictures. There are some limited signs of wear and use and a few red paint marks to the seat. There are no signs of serious wear or age but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing.
Altogether a very nice pair of original wartime pattern trousers which are ideal for the re-enactor and collector alike!
