An original 1944 dated RAF Officers Service Dress Tunic named to 'R. Castle-Miller'.
This original tunic is a rare larger size war dated example and features the standard cut used throughout the Second World War for Officers tunics. It features a full set of brass Kings crown RAF buttons, retains its original waist belt and brass buckle and bares Flight Lieutenant rank to the sleeve which is undoubtedly original to the jacket and has aged beautifully.
Inside the jacket has a tailors label which states the maker as 'Austin Reed' and the original owner as 'R Castle-Miller'. The date is also present to the label and reads 27th of April 1944, confirming that this is an authentic wartime manufactured example.
The tunic is a rare large size which should fit someone of around a 42" chest depending on desired fit. The arm is also long so it may suit a taller person. When laid flat the tunic measures -
Chest - 22"
Waist - 19 1/2"
Inside arm - 19"
Outside arm - 25 3/4"
Length - 30"
The condition of the tunic is reasonable for its age but it does have some flaws. There are some moth nips, mainly to the bottom of the left bellows pocket and a couple more to the inside face of the skirt (not seen when worn). There are also a number of stains. This can all be seen in the pictures so please study them carefully.
Larger, wearable war dated examples scarcely come up on the market today so don't miss out!
