A scarce original 'Shirts Bush R.A.F.' in a large size 5 and clearly dated 1943.
This shirt is the specific RAF Issue shirt used in the Middle and Far East as well as in Italy. It is made from cellular cotton which is often referred to as 'Aertex' which is a lightweight breathable fabric, ideally suit to war weather climates. The shirt features long sleeves with a buttoning cuff, a full button front, patch pockets to the chest and lower flapped pockets. As well as this it features Epaulettes and a full set of black plastic RAF kings crown buttons, as usually found on this period of KD shirt.
Interestingly, this pattern was designed to be worn without a waist belt and therefore features no belt loops.
Inside the shirt the original label is still present and is bright and legible. It states the shirt as being a large size 5 which will fit up to a 42" chest and a 38" waist. The manufactures name is stated as 'H. Lass LTD' and both the 1943 date and the War Department broad arrow marking are also present. Below the label is the War Department issue stamp which is surmounted by the letter 'N' which denotes 1943 as the year of issue.
The shirt is in great condition and appears to be an unissued, unworn example. It shows no signs of wear or use but does have a couple of very small holes dotted around, although these are only noticeable on close inspection.
A rare shirt in fantastic condition and a very hard to find large size. This would make an excellent addition to a collection or could well suited a re-enactor due to its size.
