Original 1942 Dated RCAF Air Gunner's Four Pocket Tunic

Original 1942 Dated RCAF Air Gunner's Four Pocket Tunic

Code: 54302

SOLD

A nice original 1942 dated British made Royal Canadian Air Force four pocket tunic to a Sergeant Air Gunner.

This jacket is a standard RAF issue example which is made from an RAF blue - grey coloured serge wool. It features brass King's crown RAF buttons througout and comes complete with its original waist belt and brass buckle. The belt has been stitched directly onto the tunic at the rear which is a nice period alteration. There is also a piece of officer's barathea wool which has been let into the reverse of the belt as a repair which is again a nice period addition as is illustrated in picture 7.

The jacket is fitted with original early war pattern embroidered eagle badges to the top of each sleeve below which are original sergeant stripes which are very slightly mis-matched but look to be original to the tunic. There is also evidence of where brass flight sergeant crowns have been fitted above the stripes although these have been removed at some stage. Above the left breast pocket is a large padded RCAF Air Gunner's brevet which features the red colouring behind the crown.

Inside the tunic the original label is no longer present although there is a War Department acceptance stamp which is surmounted by the letter 'O' which denotes 1942 as the year of issue. It appears to also have a size stamp which reads '12'.

The tunic will suit a 38" chest and when laid flat it measures -

Chest - 21"
Waist - 17 1/2"
Inside arm - 19"
Outside arm - 25 1/2"
Shoulders - 17"
Length - 31"

The tunic is in good condition for its age with various signs of wear and use. Overall it displays well but please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that it is a vintage pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A nice original early mid war tunic in good condition.
