A nice original 1942 dated pair of RAF Ordinary Airman's trousers in good condition and complete with their original label.
These trousers have all the attributes associated with early manufactured RAF OA items including the white cotton lining and stamped brass buttons. These were replaced with an indigo blue lining and black plastic buttons in 1943, making this the correct style of trousers for the early war period. Inside the trousers the original owner has marked his serial number.
The original label is still present to the seat of the trousers and is bright and legible. It bears the title of 'Trousers Blue Grey O/A, the Size of No.27 and the makers name of 'Verner & Baxter Ltd'. As well as this there is the 1942 and the War Department broad arrow marking.
The trousers will suit a 32" waist and when laid flat they measure -
Waist - 16"
Inside leg - 30"
The condition of the trousers is very good overall as can be seen in the photographs. There is a hole at the crotch and another to the bottom of the left leg as well as a couple of holes to the seat, all of which are detailed in the pictures. Please take time to study these and bear in mind that they are a pre-owned, vintage item with some flaws commensurate with age.
Wartime examples of these trousers are now becoming very hard to find particularly in such good condition and with their original labels and all the correct stamps.
These trousers would undoubtedly compliment any wartime RAF collection.
