Original 1942 Dated RAF Officer's Service Dress Tunic by 'Austin Reed'

An original Royal Air Force Officers Service Dress Tunic which was made by 'Austin Reed' in 1942.

This pattern of tunic was introduced during the 1930s and worn throughout the Second World War. It is the standard cut used throughout the Second World War by RAF Officers with pleated breast pockets with scalloped pockets and bellows pockets to the skirt. It features a full set of brass Kings crown RAF buttons and retains its original waist belt and brass buckle. Rank braid is fitted to the cuffs which denotes the rank of Flying Officer are some loose threads above the left breast pocket which may suggest a wing has previously been fitted. 

Inside the tunic features a full rayon lining and three interior pockets. Inside one of these is the original maker's label which bears the maker's name of 'Austin Reed' and the owner's name 'F/O C. Killeen'. The date is also marked as 6 3 42 which denotes the 6th of March 1942 as the day of manufacture.

The tunic is a smaller size which will suit around a 34" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat the tunic measures -

Chest - 18"
Waist - 15"
Inside arm - 17 3/4"
Outside arm - 24 1/2"
Shoulders - 15 1/2"
Length - 28 1/2"

The tunic is in good condition with no serious flaws or damage. It only shows limited signs of wear and use and overall displays very well. Please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
