A scarce original Royal Air Force Association Standard Bearer's Field Service Cap dating from the 1940s.

The RAFA was set up in 1943 and is still running to this present day. This cap was made in the early days of the association as is evident by the construction, materials and buttons. The cap features a wool barathea RAF blue grey coloured crown and a dark navy blue serge wool skirt which fastens at the front with chromium plated RAFA badges. These are marked to the rear with the maker's name 'Buttons Ltd' who were a prolific manufacturer of buttons for the British military during the Second World War. A large chrome and enamel RAFA badge is fitted to the cap. The interior is lined with a silver coloured rayon material and there is a simple leather sweatband.

The cap is a smaller size of approximately 6 3/4 and when laid flat it measures 10 1/4" along the opening.

The cap is in reasonably good condition and displays well. It does have signs of moth damage to the right side of the cap as illustrated in the pictures. Please take time to study these before purchasing.

A rare period cap which would make a great addition to a collection.
