Original WW2 RAF Ordinary Airman's Greatcoat

Code: 55148

£140.00 Approx $175.66, €163.17

A good original example of an RAF Ordinary Airman's Greatcoat Which dates from the Second World War.

Officially designated 'Greatcoats Blue Grey, O.A.', this pattern of greatcoat came into use with the RAF during the 1930s and saw use throughout the Second World War before being replaced by the 'New Pattern' greatcoat in the immediate post-war years. Whilst not dated, this example is the pattern made during the war and not the later, post-war pattern.

This greatcoat features the correct number of brass King's crown buttons and a white blanket lining to the interior. It is fitted with mid-war period semi embroidered eagle badges to the top of each sleeve and the original linen label is still present to the interior although it is worn leaving no details legible.

The coat is a smaller size which will suit around a 34" chest depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 20"
Inside arm - 18 1/2"
Outside arm - 25 1/2"
Shoulders - 17"
Length at rear - 42"

The overall condition of the Greatcoat is good although it has some signs of wear and age. There is a small length of stitching to the rear which has come away but could be repair (picture 8). Please bear in mind that this is a vintage coat of almost 80 year old and may have small issues commensurate with age.

All in all, a good example of a wartime RAF OA greatcoat which is becoming increasingly hard to find. This would compliment any RAF collection or complete a reenactment uniform nicely.
