An original RAF Warrant Officers or Officers Service Dress Tunic and Trousers dating from the Second World War.

This pattern of uniform came into issue with the RAF in the inter-war period and saw service throughout the Second World War. It was replaced in the immediate post-war period by a new pattern which had a three button front rather than 4. The tunic is made from the standard RAF blue-grey coloured barathea wool and features brass king's crown buttons Throughout. It retains its original matching waist belt and brass buckle. The interior is fully lined with rayon and features a single inner pocket.

Warrant officer badges are fitted to the lower portion of each sleeve and an original air gunner brevet is fitted above the left breast pocket. Below these are two medal ribbons including the France and Germany Star which denote that the original owner saw action during WW2.

The trousers are typical of the period featuring a high rise waist, wide leg and twin pleated front. Straight slash pockets are located at each hip and a single, buttoning pocket is found to the rear. The fly fastens with butterscotch coloured buttons with more fitted around the waist to which braces can be attached. These buttons are typical of those found on wartime manufactured RAF service dress.

The jacket will suit around a 34" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat it measures -

Jacket
Chest - 18 1/2"
Waist - 15 1/2"
Inside arm - 17 1/2"
Outside arm - 24"
Shoulders - 15 1/2"
Length - 28 1/2"

Trousers
Waist - 16"
Inside leg - 29 1/2"

The suit is in good condition with some signs of wear and age. The trousers are cleaner than the tunic which would suggest that the original trousers were worn out with the pair here being a replacement. They are a good close match but not perfect and there is a very small hole to the front as illustrated in picture 10. Overall the suit displays well and is totally wearable but please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A nice original WW2 RAF Service Dress in good condition. This could suit a collector or re-enactor well!
