An original pair of 1942 dated RAF Ordinary Airman’s Trousers in a size 21

This pattern of trousers was introduced in the 1930s for wear with the four pocket RAF Ordinary Airman''s tunic. They were worn as both a working dress until War Service Dress was introduced in 1942, after which they were worn for walking out until the end of the war.

This particular pair of trousers have the usual attributes which are associated with early war manufacture RAF OA Trousers. They feature a white lining and brass buttons to both the fly and around the top of the waist to which braces can be attached. The white lining and brass buttons were not seen later in the war as the lining was changed to an indigo blue colour and the buttons to black plastic. They are made from the standard RAF blue-grey coloured serge material.

The original label is present to the rear and is bright and legible. It bears the title of 'Trousers, Blue-Grey, O.A.' below which is the size of 21. The maker's name of 'Boult Bros Ltd' is also present below which is the 1942 and the War Department broad arrow marking.

The trousers will fit someone of around a 31" waist and when laid flat they measure -

Waist - 15 3/4"
Inside leg - 30"

The trousers are in good clean condition overall but have a couple of small holes to the crotch as illustrated in picture 4. This is only noticable under close scrutiny and not visible when worn or displayed and could be repaired. Please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that they are a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A nice original wartime pair of trousers with a good clear date. These would make a good addition to a collection or may suit a re-enactor.
