A fantastic original pair of RAF Suits Aircrew Battledress trousers clearly dated 1943 in a good large size No.12.
To look at, these trousers look like War Service Dress which replaced 'Suits Aircrew' sometime in 1943, but they are labelled as 'Suits Aircrew' none-the-less. It may be the case that this particular manufacturer was using up old stocks of labels.
The trousers are made from wool serge and feature one rear buttoning pocket, a slash pocket to each hip and a first field dress pocket to the front left of the trousers. They also feature a button fly and have buttons around the inside of the waistband which are used to secure the braces, all of which are the standard black horn type using on this pattern of RAF clothing.
Inside the waistband is the War Department ink stamp which is surmounted by the letter N which confirms 1943 as the year of manufacture.
The trousers are a good size No.12 which will fit up to a 35" waist, so a good wearable size for re-enactment.
The trousers are in very good condition with no rips, tears or moth damage. There is some discolouration around the hip pockets and to the left trouser leg, but this may come out with dry cleaning.
All together, a fantastic pair of nicely dated RAF trousers with the rare 'Suits Aircrew' label. A generous size so would suit the re-enactor as much as the collector!
