Scarce Original 1938 Dated 1932 Pattern Mae West Bladder

Scarce Original 1938 Dated 1932 Pattern Mae West Bladder

Code: 55443

A very rare original Royal Air Force 1938 dated 1932 pattern Mae West Life Jacket bladder in relic condition.

These bladders were fitted inside the 1932 pattern Mae West which is officially designated 'Waistcoat, Life-Saving, Inflatable Stole Type - Temperate Pattern'. It is made from a salmon coloured rubber and features a cloth covered tube and metal mouthpiece. Various stamps are present including the Air Ministry AM and crown marking along with the date of 19th of August 1938.

The bladder is in poor condition as is evident in the pictures and reflected in the price. The rubber has hardened and cracked two both lower ends of the stole although parts of the top are still pliable. The tube has snapped in the middle and has been reconnected for display purposes using a piece of threaded bar which is very secure. The join is only noticeable under close scrutiny as illustrated in picture 11.

Sadly like many rubber items from this period, this hasn't survived well. It is a very rare Battle of Britain period item however and could fill a gap in a collection.
