An original pair of RAF D Type flying gauntlets as used during the Second World War which are in excellent condition.

These gloves belonged to a pilot of the Fleet Air Arm called R C R Hallett. He joined the Royal Navy as a cadet in 1939 and made his way through the ranks during the war and is listed as a lieutenant by 1944. He went onto flying duties around this time and is noted as flying with 806 Squadron which was flying Seafire L.III's.

With D Type gauntlets the left and the right glove were always made in separate factories. This was to stop pairs of gloves from being stolen by workers leading to them being paired up at Squadron level. This meant that more often than not the colour of the two gloves did not quite match although this pair are a close match making them aesthetically pleasing.

This particular pair are of typical construction of the period being made from a soft brown leather with exposed edges around the fingers and thumbs and a wool lining. One glove retains it's original issue label which bears the 22c stores reference number, the War Department broad arrow marking and the size of 9 1/2.

The condition of the gloves is very good as can be seen in the pictures and they display well. They do not appear to have seen much, if any use, but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that they are a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A nice original pair of WW2 RAF gloves which would make a good addition to any collection.
