An original second Pattern RAF C-Type Flying Helmet in good condition and in the largest size made - size No. 4.
This pattern of helmet is sometimes referred to as the 'Five Strap' version which was introduced towards the end of the Second World War. This example features the sewn in metal oxygen mask clip, five straps to the rear and an elasticated chin strap.
To the left hand side of the helmet the original stamps are still present and include the War Department broad arrow marking and the RAF stores reference number of 22c/880 which denotes the helmet as a size 4. The size is also marked to the interior as No.4.
The helmet is in excellent condition and displays very well. The leather exterior is very good with only a few small nicks and the chamois interior also shows signs of wear and use. The rubber ear cups are slightly misshapen but are pliable so receivers should be easy to fit. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-owned item which has some flaws commensurate with age.
Altogether a very nice example of a C type helmet in a hard to find size 4.
