A good condition Fleet Air Arm C Type flying helmet complete marked as a size 2.
This particular helmet is a second pattern example which came into service during the last couple of years of the Second World War and features the elasticated chin strap.
The overall condition of the helmet is very good. The leather is still supple and all the pop studs work. The interior is also good showing signs of service wear but other than that very sound indeed. There is a scuff to the left hand ear cup and some crazing as can be seen in the picture but this could potentially be polished out. Aside from this, the helmet is in excellent condition.
The flying helmet has a faint number 2 stamped inside which almost certainly denotes the size. I initially thought it was a size 3 as it seemed quite large, so would say this is a generous size 2! There are no other markings inside the helmet aside from this.
Both the Zips on the ear pieces function perfectly and bot still retain retain their original leather tabs which are nearly always missing. Inside the rubber cups which the receivers fit into are both intact and still retain the covers over the gosport tube fittings which can be seen from the outside of the helmet. The original foam donuts which give the ear pieces shape are both also present inside.
There is no wiring loom or earphones present but a set of gosport tubes could be fitted. I have a few sets in stock which could be fitted to the helmet if it was so wished.
Overall, a nice original wartime FAA C-type flying helmet in a good size which displays very nicely.
