An original leather face mask as worn by aviators and motorists in the first half of the 20th Century.
These face masks were used in the early days of flying as well as by motorists. They were popular in America as well as in Europe with this example most likely dating from the 1920s.
It is made from a fine, lightweight leather which may be pigskin and the reverse is lined with chamois leather. Straps are attached to the face piece by elastic sections which have stretched with little elasticity left.
The overall condition of the mask is good for its age but it does have some small issues commensurate with age.
A nice original item which could make a good addition to an aviation or motoring collection.
