A very nice original example of the Armee Francaise M38 Bourgeon work jacket in the rare tan coloured duck cotton material.

This pattern of jacket was used by the French military during the inter-war period as well as in the early part of the Second World War. It formed part of a two piece set with matching trousers and was used as workwear for various chores.

This example is made from a khaki tan coloured cotton duck canvas material as was popular in France for workwear during this period. It features a single breasted front which fastens with large metal buttons, save for the bottom two which are period replacements. A large collar which is typical of French clothing from this period is present and fastens with a large brass hook and eye. Epaulettes are located to each shoulder and straps are located towards the bottom of each sleeve. Pockets are located to skirt and large flaps cover a welt pocket opening.

The jacket is cut wide across the chest to allow for freedom of movement. It will suit between a 38" and 42" chest depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 23"
Inside arm - 18"
Outside arm - 23"
Shoulders - 18"
Length at rear - 29"

The jacket is in good condition with only some signs of wear and age. There is a small amount of staining from wear to the rear of the collar and some other various staining although this is limited and on the whole the garment displays very well. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a pre-worn vintage jacket which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A nice original example in a hard to find collar. A classic piece of utilitarian French workwear design!
