An original pair of British Anti Gas over boots dated 1940.
These boots were issued to be worn with the gas cape or as part of the anti gas suit. They are made from a rubber backed linen and feature web straps around the opening of the boot and around the ankle. These fasten using pop studs and also have buckles to allow for adjustment.
Inside the boots are clearly marked with the 1940 date, the War Department broad arrow and the manufacturers initials. There is also an inspectors stamp as detailed in the pictures.
The boots are in very good condition for their age and are still supple and pliable. There is no serious damage that I can find and they appear to be a matched pair.
A good example with an early date which would be hard to better!
