A rare original RAF Leather Jerkin dating from 1943 and in a size No. 2.

This pattern of leather jerkin came into issue with the British Army during the Great War and stayed in service throughout the Second World War and well into the post-war years. This particular example is the RAF pattern which features an RAF blue blanket serge lining. Inside the tunic has two interior pockets professionally added and matching leather has been used to trim the openings. The fabric used for the lining is synthetic which means this modification was carried out after the war.

The original label is still present to the interior and is bright and legible. It bears the title of 'Jerkin Leather' along with size details. The manufacturer's name of 'W. M. Curwen & Co Ltd' is present as is the 1943 date and the War Department broad arrow marking.

The tunic is designed to fit between a 37" and 43" chest and when laid flat it measures -

Chest - 23"
Length - 32"

The condition of the jerkin is good for its age but it does have plenty of signs of wear and use. There are lots of signs of wear to the leather and some staining etc to the blanket lining. Please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which has flaws consistent with age.

RAF issue leather jerkins are very rare to find today, especially with the original label and a wartime date. This would make an excellent addition to any RAF collection without a doubt!
