A scarce original British Army Jumper dated 1939 and in a size 1.
This pattern of jumper was introduced prior to the Second World War and replaced the earlier button front style garment issued during the Great War. It is made from a khaki coloured wool which is machine knitted. It features a V-shaped opening to the neck and tight knitted cuffs and waistband.
Inside the jumper the original label is present which states the manufacturer as ‘H & K Ltd', the size as 1 and the year of manufacture as 1939. The War Department broad arrow is also present.
The jumper will suit someone of a 34-36" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat it measures -
Chest - 16 1/2" (Pulls out to 18"
Inside arm - 21"
Outside arm - 20 1/2"
Shoulders - 17"
Length - 22"
The overall condition of the jumper is good and it displays well as can be seen in the pictures. It does not appear to have been issued or worn previously but does have a couple of small holes. One is located below the V neck whilst another is on the arm just before the tight knit section (picture 4). There are a couple more holes to the rear and a black mark as can be seen in the last picture. Aside from this the jumper is very clean and fresh.
All in all a fantastic early War jumper with a rare early date. This would make an excellent addition to any WW2 collection without a doubt.
