An original WW2 British Khaki Drill tunic which belonged to an officer of the Scots Guards

This pattern of tunic is typical of those worn by British Officers in the Middle East and Far East. It is a theatre made example as is evident from the stitching and the construction. Theatre made items were commonly worn during the Second World War in the Middle East, Far East and Italy due to shorter supply lines.

The tunic features two buttoning breast pockets which are plain patch pockets suggesting that this was made to a wartime austerity pattern rather than the more common pleated pocket often found. Flapped lower pockets, epaulettes, long sleeves with a buttoning cuff and belt loops to attach a waist belt too are also present. The tunic is fitted with brass Scot Guards buttons throughout and features a single rank star to each epaulette. There are holes above each star which suggests more were fitted at some stage. Inside the tunic there is a First Field Dressing pocket which is curiously fitted to the skirt - a theatre made quirk!

The tunic is a larger size which will suit someone of around a 40" chest depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 22"
Inside arm - 18 1/2"
Outside arm - 25"
Shoulders - 18 1/4"
Length at back - 29"

The overall condition of the tunic is good with no rips, tears or other damage that I can find. It has been worn and laundered and has some period repairs and various signs of wear and there is some slight damage to the rear which is illustrated in picture 8. It still looks to be very wearable but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which has small flaws commensurate with age.

Overall a nice original tunic in a harder to find medium size.
