An original wartime white snow camouflaged smock and matching trousers in good condition.
This set is the lightweight version issued in the winter of 1944 and 1945 to a variety of British units as well as some American units. Made from cotton it was designed to be worn over the standard battledress uniform and featured no pockets, its sole purpose being camouflage.
The jacket is in good condition with no signs of serious wear or use. It is quite possible it was never issued as it displays very well. Inside the original label is still present and states the size as N0.3 which will fit a 40-42" chest and up to 5' 11". There is an ink issue stamp with the date March 1943 and the War Department broad arrow marking is also present.
The trousers are also in good condition and again appear to be unissued. To the rear the original makers label is present and is again marked as a size No.3, matching the jacket. They were made by 'A. Raven & Co Ltd' and bare the War Department broad arrow marking as well as the 1943 date.
The trousers also bear the War Department broad arrow marking to the righthand side. It is surmounted by the letter 'N' which denotes 1943 as the year of issue.
Altogether a nice original set with matching dates and in matching sizes. This would make a fine addition to a collection!
