An original Second World War British Army Ordinary Ranks Collarless Shirt, clearly dating from the early to mid-war period and made by 'Faulat'.
This pattern of shirt was introduced in the mid 1930s replacing the ‘grey back’ shirt issued during the Great War. The shirt is made from a khaki green wool flannel material and features a half placket, or 'tunic', front which fastens with three buttons. The collar is made of khaki coloured cotton drill whilst the buttons are a mixture of period replacements as is commonly found with shirts that have been issued and worn.
The shirt is a small size which will suit around a 34" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat the shirt measures -
Chest - 21"
Inside arm - 1/9"
Outside arm - 22"
Shoulders - 16"
Collar - 13 1/2"
The shirt is in fairly good condition with signs of service wear and use. There are a couple of holes to the shirt at the front, another to the left armpit and wear to the neckband of the collar. One of the cuff buttons is also broken. It displays well and is wearable but It is a vintage shirt which is over 80 years old and has small flaws commensurate with age.
Original wartime ordinary ranks shirts are hard to find making this a fantastic collectors piece.
