An original Second World War British Army Ordinary Ranks Collarless Shirt in a very rare large size.
This pattern of shirt was introduced in the mid 1930s replacing the ‘grey back’ shirt issued during the Great War. The shirt is made from a khaki green wool flannel material and features a half placket, or 'tunic', front which fastens with three buttons. The collar is made of khaki coloured cotton drill whilst the buttons are brown vegetable ivory (plastic) examples which date the shirt to the mid-war period. The barrel cuff also fastens with the same style of buttons and one of the front buttons has been replaced with a period replacement.
Inside the neckband collar the original maker's stamp is still visible although hard to read. It is typical of the markings found in wartime shirts none-the-less.
The shirt is a rare large size which will suit around a 44" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat the shirt measures -
Chest - 26"
Inside arm - 20 1/2"
Outside arm - 22"
Length at front - 31 1/2"
Length at back - 36"
Shoulders - 19"
Collar - 17"
The shirt is in good condition with signs of wear and use. It displays well and is wearable but It is a vintage shirt which is over 80 years old so may have small flaws commensurate with age.
This is a very rare wartime shirt in a very hard to find large size!
