SOLD

A nice original British Army Officers Shirt made from poplin cotton which dates from the Second World War.

This shirt came as part of a grouping of items which belonged to 320940 Ronald Herbert Gibbins who was an officer in the Gloucestershire regiment during the Second World War. He served with the 10th Battalion and fought in Burma. The shirt is made from a deep green coloured poplin cotton which was a popular choice for British officers during the 1930-1950s. The shirt is typical of those worn in the first half of the 20th Century in the UK featuring a half button or 'tunic' front and a neckband collar. This was worn with detachable collars made from the same material, two of which are included with the shirt.

The original label is still present inside the shirt and features typical 1940s graphics. It bears the maker's name of 'Bonsoir' along with the words 'Made in England'. Below this is a smaller label which states the size of the shirt as 4. Also just visible are the letters 'GIB' hand written in ink by the original owner.

The shirt will suit someone of around a 36" chest, depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 22"
Inside arm - 22 1/2"
Outside arm - 25"
Shoulders - 17"
Length at back - 36"
Collar - 15"

The shirt is in good condition with some signs of previous wear and use. There is some limited staining etc which is evident in the pictures. Please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which has flaws commensurate with age.

An original WW2 attributed item with a nice label.
