An original Second World War 'Smock, Drab' which was made in 1942.
This pattern of smock was introduced in 1942 and was based on the same design as the earlier Denim Windproof Smock. It is made from a lightweight, tan coloured gabardine material and features chocolate brown coloured buttons throughout, as were often used on mid-war clothing. A white drawstring is fitted around the mouth of the hood whilst another larger example can be found along the bottom seam.
Inside the smock the original label is no longer present and there is no War Department acceptance stamp. There is however the original cutters tag to the bottom hem and the brown coloured buttons denote this as a 1942 manufactured smock.
The smock would have originally been labelled as a size 1 which is the smallest size produced. When laid flat it measures -
Chest - 25 1/2"
Inside arm - 18 1/2"
Outside arm - 18 1/2"
Shoulders - 23"
Length at rear - 26"
The smock is in nice condition with some signs of wear and age. It displays well and is totally wearable but has some light staining and a small hole to the elbow which has been neatly repaired. The bottom left pocket button is also slightly broken. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-owned item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
This is a nice example of a rare wartime smock, which is very sought after today.
