An original 1954 dated British Army winter tank suit hood in a size 6.
This hood is designed to be worn in conjunction with the winter tank suit which is often referred to as the 'zoot suit' or 'pixie suit'. It is made from the same cotton canvas and features a kapok lining between the wool shirting liner and the outer shell. Nickel plated press studs are used to fasten the hood to the suit and two green buttons are used to fasten the hood at the front.
Inside the hood the original label is present and states the size as 6 and the manufacturer as 'Windsmoor (Macclesfield) Ltd'. The 1954 date is present as is the War Department broad arrow marking. To the right of the label the War Department acceptance stamp is also present and is surmounted by the letter 'O'.
The hood is in good condition with no signs of previous wear or use. It is marked from storage which is due to the kapok lining and is common to find with tank suit hoods.
