An original 1944 dated 'Overalls Blouse Drill' in good condition.

This pattern of battledress jacket was produced during the war and differs from the denim version being made from drill. To the untrained eye it looks the same as the denim version but is a different shade of green and of course doesn't have a selvedge. Just to confuse matters further, this example has been labeled as a 'denim' jacket which it clearly isn't!

The jacket features and butterscotch coloured revolving shank buttons throughout, save for the epaulettes which have had stamped brass buttons stitched on. The waist belt is fastened with a mid-war pattern buckle which is chromium plated. Interestingly the buttons which are usually found holding the buckle on have been removed and the return stitched down to hold the buckle in place.

Inside the original label is still present and is still clearly legible. It states the size as No. 4 which is designed to fit someone of 5' 5" - 5' 6" tall with a 37"-39" chest and a 33"-34" waist but it is worth remembering that these are designed to be worn over a uniform so should be worn oversize for an authentic fit. The 1944 date can be found towards the bottom of the label as well as the War Department broad arrow marking. The manufacturer's name of 'Parkinson (Walsall) Ltd' is also present.

When laid flat the jacket measures -

Chest - 23"
Waist - 18"
Inside arm - 17 1/4"
Outside arm - 24"
Shoulders - 17 1/4"
Length - 22"

The jacket is in good condition with plenty of signs of wear and use. It has various stains and sweat marks around the collar. Interestingly it looks to have had some stitched to the right breast which can be seen in the pictures. Please study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a pre-worn vintage jacket which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A good, well worn example of a piece of British military workwear with some interesting details. This would make a great addition to any collection without a doubt!
